The Public Schools Branch (PSB), represents all 56 of Prince Edward Island’s English-language public schools, serving more than 20,000 students from kindergarten through grade 12. The PSB is seeking an Assistant Director of Public Schools Branch, who along with supporting the work of the Director of Public Schools Branch in the day to day decision making and operations of the PSB, will also work collaboratively with the PSB Leadership team to support excellence in student achievement within the public school system. They will be responsible for ensuring students and staff are provided with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and a sense of belonging.
As the Assistant Director, you will report to and support the work of the Director of the Public Schools Branch. You will be a highly organized and versatile professional, providing leadership, supervision, motivation, and guidance to our Administrator Support Leaders, School Administration and Senior Leadership teams respectively.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide direction, leadership and advice to school administrators;
- Ensure that assistance and support for principals is available in the on-going management of schools;
- To review (at least annually) with Admin Support Leaders the implementation of programs and services to ensure they align with the strategic action plan of the PSB and the priorities set by the DEEY;
- Assist and support Principals in the ongoing management of schools and in facilitation of parental and community involvement;
- Provide leadership and oversight for the school review process;
- Develop communications links among divisions of PSB services;
- Analyze various sets of data to identify trends and work on positive strategies to address issues such as attendance, fostering of positive school culture and wellbeing, and student achievement, as examples;
- Sit as the Director designate in union grievance and liaison meetings;
- Manage outside agency requests – adjudicating the appropriateness of requests that may impact learning opportunities for students;
- Support the planning and facilitation of Principal meetings;
- Participate in the hiring of Leadership positions;
- Assist in the staffing process;
- Help coordinate PD related non-pedagogical opportunities for school;
- Monitor the adherence by schools to PSB policies, procedures and established practices;
- Problem-solve problems/questions that parents/guardians may have about schools;
- Oversees communication to system leaders within the PSB;
- Represent the PSB on various committees;
- With the support of Admin Support Leaders, provide supervision, coaching, advice, direction, evaluation and growth plans for school principals, as well as provide direction on any Administrators who are placed on Assistance Plans in consultation with the Director of Human Resources;
- Provide guidance and decisions to IT data specialists and RIM coordinator;
- Perform other duties as required.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
- Successful completion of a Master of Education in Administration, Curriculum or a related field;
- Successful completion of a Bachelor of Education degree program;
- Hold or be eligible to hold a PEI Teachers Certificate 6 or higher;
- Extensive experience working within K-12 school environment;
- Experience working in a Leadership role within a K-12 school, school board, post-secondary or education department environment;
- Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered;
- Team player with experience collaborating with variety of internal and external interest holders;
- Critical judgement and skills in dealing with highly confidential and complex issues;
- Strong organizational skills applicable to the current dynamic and challenging environment;
- Strong interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills are essential as well as excellent word processing, database management and spreadsheets (Excel) skills;
- Experience creating detailed reports, analyzing complex data and synthesizing data clearly;
- Experience creating and disseminating effective communications through multiple mechanisms;
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, establish priorities and meet tight deadlines;
- Demonstrates the ability to be resourceful, innovative and positively influence others in their work;
- Be able to travel as needed;
Assets:
- Experience in leading teams, building consensus, facilitating groups and conflict resolution;
- Experience managing employees in a unionized workplace;
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory criminal record check prior to beginning employment.
