MAINTENANCE TRADE WORKER I (Plumber) – (Level 11A) – LOCATION – CHARLOTTETOWN – Immediately

The Maintenance Trade Worker reports directly to the Property Services Manager.  This is skilled trades work in the maintenance and repair of school buildings and associated equipment working with a focus in the Western area.  This involves a considerable volume and variety of maintenance assignments with a concentration in Plumbing/Heating & HVAC in the maintenance and repair of school buildings and associated equipment. Work is distinguished from that of the Maintenance Trades worker class by the emphasis on skilled Plumbing/HVAC maintenance; and the responsibility for ensuring that all preventative and corrective maintenance is affected in assigned building by personally performing or assigning or arranging for its completion. Maintenance/Repair and projects are discussed and approved by the Property Manager.

Duties Include:

• The performance of varied maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks at the journeyman level in the building, mechanical, HVAC and plumbing trades, following established trade techniques and procedures in carrying assignments to completion;
• Install, repair, maintain all Plumbing/HVAC/Computerized Energy Management Systems, maintenance, repair/cleaning of boilers and associated work;
• Assist in scheduling work assignments and maintenance of systems;
• Responsible for a considerable volume and variety of semi-skilled to skilled maintenance assignments other than their primary trade. i:e. heating plants, controls, air compressors, heat wheels, humidification and de- humidification systems, pumps;
• Perform mechanic skill work relating to mechanical/electrical/pneumatic, etc.;
• Work results are subject to inspection for adherence to performance and operating standards;
• Assist in estimating cost of repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors for services, equipment, and procedures;
• Assist in ensuring school custodial staff are properly trained in daily operations of Plumbing/HVAC/Computerized Energy Management Systems and heating plants;
• Development of preventative maintenance procedures relating to mechanical systems
• Troubleshoot, maintenance & cleaning of all types of boilers;
• Responsible for maintaining inventory of parts for plumbing, maintenance and mechanical systems;
• Assist other trades workers on maintenance/servicing of systems/equipment;
• Other duties as required by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must have a minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent;
• Must have a valid Provincial Trade Qualification(Red Seal) in Plumbing with considerable experience in a commercial/institutional environment;
• Must have mechanical and electrical knowledge and a good understanding of building automation systems, components and technology;
• Must have experience in commercial Computerized Energy Management Systems;
• Must have experience in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Technology);
• Must have experience in maintenance of air handling units, plumbing, heating systems, pumps & boilers;
• Must have a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract upon request;
• Must be in good Physical health with the ability to: lift 30-75 pounds, climb to a height of approximately 25 feet, work overhead, and be able to work in a confined space;
• Demonstrated ability to read/write clearly and interpret plans and specifications;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate using electronic devices;
• Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and make decisions independently;
• Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility, leadership, strong communication and problem solving skills with the ability to multitask and establish priorities;
• A Criminal Abstract is required, with no past or present criminal record which would be detrimental in working in an   environment with children, youth and other adults;
• The successful applicant must have a good previous work and attendance record;
• The successful candidate must be agreeable to be on call and/or perform overtime when needed and be able to  respond in a timely manner;
• Other:  Oil Heat System Technician certificate would be an asset.

Salary Range:  $31.13 – $34.73

Weekly Hours: 40 hours/week – 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday / ½ hour unpaid lunch.
