CHANCES
Smart Play Manager
Role:
Reporting to the Smart Operations Coordinator, the Smart Play Manager is entrusted with providing leadership and operational oversight for 10 Smart Play after-school programs. The manager ensures that these programs operate at the highest standards of quality, effectiveness, and efficiency. The role is crucial in shaping a positive, enriching environment for children and their families, integrating the Smart Play programs seamlessly within the broader spectrum of CHANCES services.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Operations:
Oversee Day-to-Day Operations: Manage and monitor the daily operations of all 10 Smart Play programs, ensuring consistency and excellence in service delivery across all sites.
Quality Assurance: Guarantee the provision of high-quality programs that foster the holistic development of children and support their families.
Program Assessments: Ensure the timely completion of assessments such as SACCERS, as required by CHANCES, and use the findings to inform program improvements.
Program Integration: Ensure that Smart Play programs are fully integrated into the existing continuum of CHANCES programs, creating synergies that enhance the overall service offering.
Operational Planning: Contribute to the development and execution of strategic and operational plans for the Smart Play programs, aligning them with the organization’s goals.
Proactive Problem-Solving: Identify program needs, potential challenges, and opportunities proactively, and develop strategies to address them effectively.
Travel Requirements: Regularly travel to all program locations to provide on-site support, supervision, and evaluation, ensuring consistent quality and operational alignment across all sites.
Incident Management: Address issues as they arise, ensuring timely and appropriate responses, including following up on incident reports to ensure resolution and to identify any areas for improvement.
Team Culture: Foster a healthy work environment by promoting a positive, strength-based team approach that aligns with and supports the organizational culture.
Program Development: Participate in the analysis of new program opportunities to assess their fit and viability within the Smart Play framework.
Community Partnerships: In collaboration with the Executive Director, seek and establish partnerships with community organizations to support and enhance the delivery of current and new program areas.
2. Staff Supervision and Support:
Supportive Supervision: Build strong, supportive supervisory relationships with the staff under your management, fostering a culture of empowerment and problem-solving.
Team Development: Regularly meet with staff, either individually or as a team, to address classroom challenges and guide them toward developing their own solutions.
Environment Evaluation: Evaluate indoor and outdoor play environments, provide constructive feedback, and work with staff to enhance the quality of these spaces.
Behavioral Support: In collaboration with supervisors, conduct observations of children experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges, and support staff in developing and implementing effective behavioral plans.
Performance Management: Provide direct supervision and support to supervisors and staff, clearly communicating work expectations, monitoring performance, and conducting performance enhancements.
Policy Adherence: Ensure that all human resource policies outlined in the CHANCES Employee Handbook are consistently followed.
Training and Development: Identify the training needs of your team and seek out opportunities to meet these needs, contributing to the continuous professional development of staff.
Recruitment and Onboarding: Assist the HR department in recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training new staff to ensure a high level of competency and alignment with organizational values.
3. Research & Evaluation:
Program Evaluation: Ensure that comprehensive program evaluations are conducted as required, using the insights gained to drive continuous improvement in program delivery.
Qualifications:
Educational Background: Graduate of, a post-secondary program in child and youth care, recreation and leisure services, social work, education, or a related field.
Relevant Experience: Experience working with children and youth in educational, recreational, or camp settings.
Police Record Check: Clear vulnerable sector police record check (mandatory).
Driver’s License: Must possess a valid PEI driver’s license.
