Maintenance Craftsperson, Term Position Commencing ASAP to January 21, 2025
Holland College is seeking a motivated, results-oriented individual who is interested in joining a fast-paced dynamic and successful organization. Reporting to the Centre Administrator (East), the successful candidate will:
- Troubleshoot, inspect, install, repair, and replace pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the water, heating and/or plumbing systems.
- Replace defective pipe by cutting, bending, threading, assembling pipe and soldering.
- Repair or replace damaged plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, and bathtubs and/or connect them to outlet and inlet pipes by fitting gaskets, couplings, traps and valves, and soldering connections to seal joints where necessary.
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment on College properties including but not limited to boiler, hot water heaters and furnaces.
- Participate in completing common work order requests individually and in teams that fall outside of your trade.
- Participate in the design and execution of preventative maintenance systems.
- Perform and record daily log readings and complete daily assignments using our Maintenance Management Systems.
- Ensure compliance with all provincial and federal regulations and College policies & procedures.
- Have working knowledge of OH&S Act, Canadian Plumbing Code, and the Government rules and regulations.
- Respond to calls for duty at irregular hours to address safety hazards or emergencies.
- Be an active participant in the College’s energy conservation initiatives.
- Organization and execution of special projects when requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- College diploma or a trade credential in Plumbing. Red Seal endorsement is preferred but not mandatory.
- Three years of recent and related experience in a similar field.
- Possess the ability to perform all physical duties of the job as required.
- Possess strong communication, computer literacy and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimum supervision as well as the ability to work in a team setting.
- Willing to respond to calls after hours, as required.
- Must possess a class 5 driver’s license.
- Certification in WHMIS, first aid, confined spaces & fall arrest training would be considered assets.
- HVAC and/or carpentry experience will be considered an asset.
