Term position: November 1, 2023, to May 1, 2024, with possibility of extension
Holland College is seeking a Research Assistant to support the research & development activities of the Applied Research department. Reporting to the Director of Applied Research, the Research Assistant will:
- Support the execution of industry-based research and development projects.
- Perform analytical laboratory activities, test, and experiments in support of research projects.
- Conduct in depth literature searches and reviews to support project methodology.
- Respond to industry requests for technical services.
- Support the development of technical reports, presentations, funding applications.
- Support effective tracking of timelines, budgets, and communications with industry partners. Maintain detailed and organized laboratory notebooks and databases.
- Supporting inventory management of lab supplies and ordering materials when necessary.
- Supporting maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and to resolve issues or challenges during experimentation.
- Provide support and mentorship to students involved in research projects.
- Support faculty in curricular innovation, such as integrating educational technology.
- Assist in identifying new opportunities for growth.
- Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree is required. Master of Science degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in conducting applied research in molecular biology including ligation, primer design, PCR, gel electrophoresis or DNA sequencing or other areas related to the bioscience sector.
- Strong analytical lab skills for methods such as GC and HPLC
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent written communication skills; excellent public speaking and presentation skills; professional manner and ability to proceed in confidential and collaborative situations is key.
