Job Description:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Program Manager of Applied Sciences and Engineering Technology, Computer Studies and Metal Trades, the successful applicant will create a positive teaching and learning environment and provide effective delivery of the Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) program (course descriptions can be found on the Holland College website). The ideal candidate will:

  • Assist learners in the development of required curriculum outcomes through such activities as individual and group instruction, self-directed learning, and performance assessments.
  • Deliver excellence in learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Promote student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching students and engaging students in the learning process.
  • Develop, review and update learning materials, using an online based learning management system (SAM).
  • Liaise with industry to promote student learning and program relevancy.
  • Comply with OH&S regulations.
  • Counsel learners regarding occupational goals.
  • Participate in program development and planning activities.
  • Perform other learning manager related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Electronics Technology (Diploma or degree) combined with 3-5 years recent and relevant industry experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must be a member or qualify for membership with the Island Technology Professionals (ITP) or the Association of Professional Engineers of Prince Edward Island (APEPEI).
  • Experience in a telecommunications industry setting as well as experience in the areas of communication, wireless, and microwave systems are an asset.
  • Experience with microcontrollers, FPGAs, and PLCs is an asset.
  • Knowledge of electronic design/simulations software, VISIO, C/C++ programming, and Microsoft Project would be considered assets.
  • Strong skills in problem analysis and resolution.
  • Demonstrated strengths in written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven organizational and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Certification in Adult Education and/or prior teaching experience with adult learners in an educational setting will be considered assets.
  • Industry certifications such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) would be an asset.
