THE OPPORTUNITY:
STEAM PEI has a Makerspace, ‘Etl-kisite’tasik,’that will soon be located at 141 Mount Edward Road,
Charlottetown, PE C1A 5T1. At this location, we will offer special programming throughout the summer,
including a touch tank, open Makerspace time, and a wide range of STEAM programs open to all.
STEAM PEI is looking for Summer Makerspace Support to work with our team in developing and facilitating summer programs at the Etl-kisite’tasik Makerspace. Our priority is to create an inclusive, warm, welcoming, educational, and fun space for everyone.
What kinds of things will you do?
- Organizing and facilitating workshops, classes, play invitations, and special events for youth ages 3-18.
- Monitoring and supporting visitors during open Makerspace times.
- Learning and teaching others how to use specialized equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and robotics.
- Processing retail sales and collecting and tracking payments for the use of the space.
- Promoting, marketing, and building awareness.
- Keeping the space tidy for visitors.
Summer hours for the Etl-kisite’tasik Makerspace are planned to be:
- Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM – 4 PM
- Sunday: 12 PM – 4 PM
- These hours are subject to change based on our summer visitor traffic.
Compensation:
- $18-20/hour for a post-secondary STEM student with relevant experience (37.5 hours/week).
- $16-17/hour for a responsible high school student in Grade 11/12 or recently graduated.

THE SKILLS:
If playing with robots with 6-year-olds, blasting off bottle rockets with 8-year-olds, and creating stop-motion animation videos with 12-year-olds sounds like a nightmare, then this job might not be for you.
But if you’re thinking, “I can’t believe I’d get paid to do that!” then you are going to have a BLAST!
Ideal skills and experiences include:
- Experience working with kids and retail sales.
- A clean criminal record check and First Aid certification (required).
- Knowledge of science, technology, engineering, art, and/or math.
- Comfort in trying new things and continuing your own learning.
- Experience with tools such as Makey Makey, micro:bits, TinkerCAD, Fusion360, Cricut, Scratch, Dash, Canva, Clockify, and Trello (bonus points!).

Our efforts focus on reaching youth across PEI, with particular emphasis on under-represented groups, including girls, Indigenous youth, and youth from low socio-economic backgrounds.
