Job Description:

The Tourism and Culinary Centre requires a Facilities Support Technician to provide general maintenance to the facility and grounds.  Reporting to the Facilities Administrator (TCC), the incumbent will:

  • Assist in design and maintenance of a preventative maintenance system for equipment and building systems.
  • Performs appropriate preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Work closely with the Culinary Institute of Canada (CIC), Canada’s Smartest Kitchen (CSK) and Cavendish Farms teams in ensuring the major maintenance items are performed in effective and timely matter.
  • Assist in coordinating outside contractors to perform necessary preventive/corrective maintenance.
  • Create, prioritize, and manage work orders.
  • Monitor and trouble shoot automated heating and cooling, fire, and security systems.
  • Assist in the set-up of functions.
  • Assist in ensuring designated areas are cleared of snow and ice and properly salted.
  • Coordinate and perform lawn care activities and assist in cleaning of school grounds.
  • Perform general maintenance such as hanging white boards, light painting, changing fluorescent bulbs, etc.
  • Assist building and kitchen cleaners as required.
  • Participate as a member of the on-call team
  • Observe safety precautions while on duty

Qualifications:

  • High School completion or recognized equivalent is required.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a similar job function is preferred.
  • Provincial certification or diploma in HVAC or plumbing is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of core building systems including HVAC, Electrical troubleshooting, plumbing, and carpentry is an asset.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and email systems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimum supervision as well as the ability to work in a team setting.
  • First Aid Certification, WHMIS, Fall Arrest and/or Confined Spaces training will be considered an asset.
