Salary : $25,000
Start : September 12, 2022
End: June 15, 2023

The Mount Academy is currently looking for the right people to complete our Student Residence Team. We are looking for a part-time cook to ensure our student’s nutrition needs are being met. This role will have a big impact in the lives of our students by ensuring that they have the energy and endurance they need to lead the life of a high-caliber student-athlete at The Mount Academy.

For the 2022-2023 school year, The Mount Academy has partnered with The Gables PEI to allocate six of their executive cottages for our students from September- June. Each cottage will house 9-11 students and a House Supervisor. These cottages are located in close proximity to each other and the Clubhouse which creates a fun, community environment for all of the Student Residence Team in beautiful Cavendish, PEI.

Overall Responsibility

The Cook is responsible for ensuring all of the dinner meals for the students and the House Supervisors are prepared according to the weekly menu created by the Health and Wellness Coordinator. The Student Activity Centre consists of a full residential kitchen that is equipped with two stoves, a standard fridge and a larger industrial fridge and freezer and will be the central location for the preparation of all meals. The Health and Wellness Coordinator will ensure that the Cook has the meal plan and ingredients to prepare the hot meals during the cooks part-time shifts each week.

The Cook will work an agreed upon schedule Monday to Friday during school hours. Dinners should be prepared with the intention that the meal can be served by the House Supervisors with minimal preparation and instruction. You will also be responsible for communicating with the Director of Student Life on a consistent basis and if any issues arise. This position does not require any supervisory role. This position is a part of the team that will work together under the direction of the Director of Student Life.

House Supervisors are on duty after school hours during the week and Saturday and Sunday for the entire day and will oversee the delivery of the meals during those times. It is not required of this position to be onsite for meal times, but a flexible schedule could be arranged if this is desired.  The Residence team also consists of a Residence Activities Coordinator who will be planning activities for the students such as attending Islanders games, day trips to Charlottetown, movie night, etc.. It will be the responsibility of the Health and Wellness Coordinator to inform the Cook of changes to the number of meals required or any other change of plans. It will be required of the Cook to utilize strong communications skills to ensure optimal performance in this role.

Our students are elite athletes and travel often with their hockey teams, this will also need to be considered in the overall schedule for meal planning. The school calendar is available for your review, and outlines the details of the breaks for Christmas and March Break. Students are required to leave the cottages for these breaks and it is best to ensure minimal food waste during this time. The House Supervisors will be responsible for their own meals during school breaks. The setup of the Gables will allow for a larger community for both the students, House Supervisors, the Health and Wellness Coordinator and this position. In total, there will be six cottages in close proximity creating a team of supportive staff members to ensure that this truly becomes a home for everyone.
