Job Description:

Continuing Position commencing September 1, 2022 (37.5 hrs/week)

Duties & Responsibilities Reporting to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will work closely with the Student Wellness team, campus community and outside organizations to support student and staff health care services. The LPN will also:

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments.
  • Triage patients.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Cumulative Patient Profile.
  • Document patient information.
  • Perform nursing interventions based on best practice/clinical guidelines.
  • Assist with procedures.
  • Utilize therapeutic communication between the patient/family and participating members of the health care team.
  • Respond to call-back questions from clients/families.
  • Provide information and assist in the education of the patient and family in the promotion and maintenance of health and independence.
  • Complete point of care testing and perform quality control checks as recommended.
  • Apply, change, and maintain simple dressings, and assist with complex dressing changes.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory examination, label, and complete requisitions.
  • Assist with client preparation for procedures, assist during the performance of treatments, interviews, and assessments.
  • Ensure all exam rooms are properly supplied, order medical supplies, clean rooms, and equipment after use.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Licensed Practical Nurse Program and eligible for licensure on PEI.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, computer booking, and charting systems.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated superior customer service orientation and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other team members and contribute positively to team dynamics.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Applicants must be capable of sustained physical activity.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.  Must be willing to travel and have access to a vehicle.
  • Knowledge of Holland College and Holland College Health Clinic policies and procedures would be considered an asset.
