THE OPPORTUNITY:

STEAM PEI is looking for a Director of English Programs to focus on developing, facilitating, and assessing our programs, especially in-school experiences, and working closely with the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning as well as with UPEI’s Education Faculty to assist in developing and providing teacher professional development.

Compensation is in the range of $58,500-$78,000 for a certified, experienced teacher working 37.5 hours a week. There may be a few evenings and weekend hours, but most of the work that needs to be done happens during, or just after school hours. Summers will be a little lighter than the school year and will include mentoring our post-secondary and high school summer staff and planning for the school year ahead. We believe in doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done, so there is plenty of flexibility to maintain the work/life balance you are looking for. THE SKILLS:

If you are a certified, experienced teacher looking for a change from the traditional classroom arrangement, that’s Amazing! You will need to have a reliable vehicle because we cover the Island “like the dew”, and quite frankly, we almost always have a trunk full of gadgets and materials.

If you think playing with robots with 6 year olds, blasting off bottle rockets with 12 year olds, and creating stop motion animation videos with 15 year olds is a nightmare, then you probably won’t like this job. If you are thinking, “I can’t believe I would get paid for doing that!”, then you are going to have a BLAST! Working with kids also means a clean criminal record check and First Aid certification is a must as is ensuring all public health guidelines are maintained.

The ability to work independently – from home and on the go – as well as in collaboration with other members of the STEAM Team is key. Some level of knowledge about science, technology, engineering and/or math would be ideal. You definitely need to be comfortable and willing to try new things and continue your own learning as we like to stay on the cutting edge. Bonus points if you have a professional designation in education or STEM fields.

ABOUT US:

STEAM PEI is a non-profit organization, located in Scotchfort, Abegweit First Nation, with a new location at 8 Stan MacPherson Way in Downtown Charlottetown. STEAM PEI’s mission is to inspire young Islanders to pursue learning and careers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) fields by fostering their curiosity and confidence through engaging experiential learning opportunities. STEAM PEI strives to reach youth all across PEI, with a special focus on girls, Indigenous youth, and youth from low socio-economic backgrounds who are traditionally under-represented in STEM fields.

The position will be filled as soon as we find someone fantastic. We’d love to have you start for at least a few hours a week in August with a full-time start in early September at the latest.
