Job Description:

This is a one-year position for a maternity leave.  Reporting to the Smart Start Coordinator Operations, the Smart Play Manager provides oversight and coordination for the day to day operations of Smart Play programs. Through inspired leadership, the Smart Play Manager is responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, quality, effective and efficient delivery of the programs and services for which they have responsibility.

Specific Responsibilities:

1.      Operations:

  • Coordinate, manage and monitor the day to day operations of Smart Play;
  • Ensure the provision of high quality programs that support the development of children as well as their families;
  • Ensure the completion of assessments such as SACCERS as required and set out by CHANCES;
  • Ensure that Smart Play programs are fully integrated into the existing continuum of CHANCES programs;
  • Contribute to the development of operational plans for Smart Play;
  • Be proactive in identifying program needs and potential challenges and opportunities;
  • Contribute to a healthy work environment by utilizing a positive, strength based team approach that respects and supports the organizational culture;
  • Participate in new program analysis for fit and viability;
  • In consultation with the Executive Director, to seek partnerships in the community that will support and enhance the effective delivery of existing or new program areas.

2.  Staff Supervision and Support:

  • Build a strength based and supportive supervisory relationship with staff for whom they have responsibility;        Meet with staff either individually or as a team to address classroom challenges working toward empowering team members to develop their own solutions to problems;
  • Evaluate indoor and outdoor play environments, offer feedback and work with staff to enhance the quality of the space;
  • In conjunction with supervisors, complete observations of children who are experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges and support staff in developing and implementing behavioral plans as needed;
  • Promote and support a work culture that encourages top performance and high morale.
    Provide direct supervision and support to Supervisors and staff including communicating work expectations,  monitoring, and conducting performance enhancements;
  • Ensure that all human resource policies outlined in the CHANCES’ Employee  Handbook are followed;
  • Identify training needs of the staff for whom they are responsible and seek training opportunities to meet staff needs;
  • Participate in identifying the training needs of staff;
  • Assist HR with recruiting, selecting, orientation and training.

3. Research & Evaluation

  • Ensure program evaluations are conducted as required.
  • Applicants must hold an ECE Supervisor’s Certificate
