THE OPPORTUNITY:
STEAM PEI is looking for an Educational Facilitator – Climate Science to work with our team in developing and facilitating in-school experiences, camps, workshops, classes, and parties across PEI in both French and English. This year we have a special focus on math, climate science, and digital skills programs. Compensation is $20/hour for a recent post-secondary STEM graduate (graduated within the last 5 years) with relevant experience for 37.5 hours a week. This is a one year term position with the potential of renewal based on organizational needs. There may be a few evenings and weekend hours, but most of the work that needs to be done happens during, or just after school hours. We believe in doing what needs to be done when it needs to be done, so there is plenty of flexibility to maintain the work/life balance you are looking for. THE SKILLS:
For this position a degree or past experience in the climate science and environmental science fields would be a great asset. Experience working with youth would also be a great skill for this position. You will need to have a reliable vehicle and driver’s license because we cover the Island “like the dew”, and quite frankly, we almost always have a trunk full of gadgets and materials.
If you think playing with robots with 6 year olds, blasting off bottle rockets with 12 year olds, and creating stop motion animation videos with 15 year olds is a nightmare, then you probably won’t like this job. If you are thinking, “I can’t believe I would get paid for doing that!”, then you are going to have a BLAST! Working with kids also means a clean criminal record check and First Aid certification is a must as is ensuring all public health guidelines are maintained.
Although we have a homebase in downtown Charlottetown, the ability to work independently – from our location, from home and on the go – as well as in collaboration with other members of the STEAM Team is key. Some knowledge of science, engineering, math, or technology—especially climate science—would be ideal. You definitely need to be comfortable and willing to try new things and continue your own learning as we like to stay on the cutting edge. Bonus points if you have experience with some of the tools we use such as Makey Makey, micro:bits, Scratch, Dash, Canva, and Clockify.

STEAM PEI’s mission is to inspire young Islanders to pursue learning and careers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) fields by fostering their curiosity and confidence through engaging experiential learning opportunities. STEAM PEI strives to reach youth all across PEI, with a special focus on girls, Indigenous youth, and youth from low socio-economic backgrounds who are traditionally under-represented in STEM fields.
