The Career Prep Program is an employment program developed to help full-time post-secondary students develop new skills and gain work experience through on the job training during their last year of study. A temporary wage subsidy is provided to an employer to create opportunities for students to apply their education and training in the workplace. This work experience should prepare the student to move into the workforce after graduation.
Who is eligible to participate?
If you are a full-time post-secondary student in your last year of study you are eligible to apply.
- You must be legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizen or permanent resident);
- You must be between the ages of 15-30.
How do I apply?
You must apply directly with the employer. The employer will interview and select a candidate for the position. If you are selected, the employer will submit an application to SkillsPEI requesting a temporary wage subsidy to hire you. To be approved we will need:
- Completed Career Prep participant form;
How does the program work?
You will be paid by your employer and you will have the same rights and responsibilities as any other employee.
