Caseworker
The John Howard Society of PEI is seeking a Caseworker for their Veterans Housing Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing service delivery and case management for those individuals/families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
Key Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Reports directly to the Program Manager
- Accept self-referrals from clientele as well as community-based and government organizations
- Assesses client needs based on based on bio/psycho/social requirements
- Advocate and clarify processes and procedures for clients in regards to community and government agencies
- Create a goal-oriented case plan for clients which reflects the needs and wishes of the client
- Provide a strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to supporting clientele
- Work with various community and government agencies to organize a support network to assist in finding and maintaining safe and secure housing
- Connect individuals to resources in their homes & communities to address their housing needs and enhance their support networks
- Calculate the eligible benefits for Veterans
- Work collaboratively with the clients while providing intervention as needed
- Participate in case conferences with community agencies
- Connect and work with Veterans organizations and their processes
- Works with various data bases
- Other duties may be required
Key Skills Required:
- Must be comfortable preparing and making presentations to groups

- Ability to conduct risk assessments on clients
- Creative problem-solving abilities
- The ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude
- The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- The ability to represent/promote the organization in a positive manner within the community and with clients
- Excellent time management skills
Qualifications:
- University degree in human services **or **high school graduation combined with relevant working experience
- Experience working with marginalized populations (including but not limited to individuals experiencing
- homelessness, individuals who use substances, individuals with mental health issues)
- ASSIST training would be an asset
- CPR- First aid certified would be preferred
- Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of the clients
- Understand and practice professional boundaries
- Criminal record check is required
- Must have a valid Prince Edward Island driver’s license, and reliable transportation.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Salary: From $24.00 per hour

- Monday to Friday 8:30 – 4:30
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Charlottetown, PE C1A 7M8: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- Case management: 2 years (preferred)
- Preference will be given to individuals interested in working with Veterans
