Job Description:

POSITION TITLE:                          Power Engineer
REPORTING TO:                            Power Engineer Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

As part of the Property Management Team, under the direction of the Power Engineer Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Heating Plant and related heat distribution systems in Hangar 8.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

A.    Plant / Energy Centre Operation
·     Operates and services building/plant (e.g., boilers, water softeners, chillers, HVAC, automation systems, fire systems, call systems, emergency power) within code requirements.
·     Performs daily boiler chemical tests, calculates impurities, adds chemicals as necessary.
·     Maintains and repairs boilers (e.g., shutdown, boiler inspection, replace parts).
·     Maintains and services hot water systems (e.g., pumps, converters, heat reclamation system, piping).
·     Monitors and maintains pneumatic control system.
·     Monitors and responds to plant alarms.
·     Liaise with outside contractors.
·     Maintains, lubricates, cleans and adjusts equipment, changes belts and filters, and makes minor repairs and adjustments using hand and power tools.
·     Maintains ventilation units.

B.    Preventative Maintenance
·     Performs preventative maintenance tasks on all plant/energy center equipment and systems.
·     Performs preventative maintenance tasks on other equipment throughout the facility as per preventative maintenance program.
·     Maintains maintenance logs and records

C.     Related Key Work Activities
·      Participates in renovation projects.
·      Locks / unlocks doors and performs security checks.
·      Performs general maintenance activities within and outside the facility.
·      Performs minor plumbing, mechanical, carpentry and welding duties.
·      Provides occasional guidance to the primary function of others, including training.
·      Maintains a clean work area.
·      Responds to emergencies.

Other Duties:
•         Removing snow from doorways at Hangar 8
•         Ensuring there is access to Hangar 8 doors for storage tenants and Ice Patrol.
•         Ensuring storage forms are completed for Hangar 8 storage tenants.
•         Supervising vehicle storage and removal.
•         Ensuring Hangar floors and tunnel are clean.
•         Replacing light bulbs.
•         Assisting in any general maintenance such as changing rad valves, unplug   toilets checking for leaks on drains, roofs, replacing ceiling tile; and
•         Being available as point of contact for contractors / tenants in Hangar 8.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience Requirements:

4th Class Power Engineer Certificate
Fall Arrest and WHMIS Training
First Aid Certificate
Confined Space Training
Must achieve security clearances as required by commercial tenants, including criminal and background checks

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Scheduled Working Hours:

This is shift work, requiring day, evening and night work.

Personal Attributes:

This position requires an ability to be standing for long periods of time, multitask, work alone, operate snow removal and other equipment and move around the property.
