Confederation Centre of the Arts
Job Summary:
Job Description:
Are you a performer, a storyteller, or a history enthusiast looking to bring the past to life? As a Heritage Player, you won’t just give tours—you will become a living bridge between the 1860s and today. You will immerse yourself in character, costume, and culture to provide locals and visitors with an unforgettable glimpse into the stories that shaped our island and our nation.
Reporting to the Heritage Coordinator, the Heritage Players work closely with them to ensure the successful delivery of the Centre’s Heritage activities, including walking tours and educational programs. This is a seasonal part-time position, with hours varying between 20 and 40 hours a week between June 30 – October 31, 2026. Additional off-season work may be available (November-May) to assist with school group activities.
What You’ll Do
Embody the Era: Master the art of “living history” by portraying a historical character, complete with authentic Victorian-era costuming and etiquette.
Inclusive Storytelling: Lead engaging walking tours that explore the full spectrum of our history—from indigenous beginnings on Turtle Island (Epekwitk) to the modern day, highlighting the voices of the Mi’kmaq, racialized communities, women, and the working class.
Captivate Your Audience: Perform historical vignettes and improvise in character for public crowds and private events.
What We’re Looking For
Theatrical Flair: You are comfortable “in character” and can adapt your performance to any audience—from curious wanderers to large conference groups.
Quick Learners: You’re ready to dive into training in June, absorbing tour scripts, PEI history, and Victorian costuming techniques.
Resilience: You enjoy the energy of downtown Charlottetown and are prepared to perform outdoors in various summer weather conditions (don’t worry—we’ll train you on staying cool and hydrated in those layers!).
Adaptability: You can switch from a deep historical lecture to a theatrical performance at a moment’s notice.
Why Join the Heritage Players?
This is more than a summer job; it’s a chance to build your performance resume, gain deep historical knowledge, and play a vital role in decolonizing the Canadian narrative. You will join a supportive team of creatives dedicated to “travelling through time” every single day.
