Job Description:

The graphic web designer will help the team with visual design, including typography, visual concepts, responsive design, and identity based design for web and print. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential to this role.  Projects and responsibilities will include designing direct mail, web sites, HTML emails, social media and web app graphics, as well as print and exhibit materials.

The designer will:

  • Contribute innovative and original ideas for concepts, graphics, layouts, and logos.
  • Provide support in the areas of digital marketing, multimedia development, social media, and website design, development and management.
  • Encourage an open and free-thinking team atmosphere by accepting and providing direction and feedback to/from other team members.
  • Write clear technical design and specification documents.
  • Work closely with team members, especially the Lead Programmer, to fulfil the primary project requirements and contribute to the team’s goal of reaching the project’s vision.
  • Develop creative briefs and manage client proposals from typesetting and colour theory through to design, print and production.
  • Work with clients, briefing and advising them with regard to design style, format, web design or print production and timescales.
  • Work with external suppliers to manage tight timelines and budget requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  • Experience in designing for responsive web design, including implementation with HTML & CSS.
  • Proficiency in using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat), Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and WordPress.
  • Strong sense of design and typography.
  • Completion of a minimum two-year post-secondary program (college or university graduate) in a related field.
  • Proven graphic designing experience.
  • Possession of creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality.
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
  • Understanding of digital media and responsive web design principles.
  • Photography, video product and editing experience are considered assets.
  • Able to work as part of a small team, take direction well and contribute positively to overall work environment/performance of the group.
  • Quick learner with strong communication skills who understands the importance of deadlines.
  • Ability to juggle multiple detailed projects with superb accuracy.
  • Ability to develop compelling content for social media and web.
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
